Ljugarn is located on the east coast of Gotland, 45 km from Visby. In the summer season there are frequent daily bus services to and from Visby, which allows travelers without a car to visit Ljugarn over the day.

Ljugarn is the oldest seaside resort on the island of Gotland, developed already in the late 1800s when sea bathing became popular in Sweden and the rest of Europe.
